Project Constraints
This project came about because I wanted to create a piece using all of the skills I had learned over my first Co-op. I challenged myself to use many of the techniques that I had been taught.

Inspiration
Over my time at Orange Chair this summer I was able to see many different upholstered pieces come through. These are some pieces that I had taken inspiration from for this ottoman.
Finding the proportions
Before diving into designing the structure of this piece I wanted to test out many different iterations of proportions to find what fit my vision.
Modeling the structure
I designed this piece to be constructed in the same way as the other pieces at Orange Chair. The whole structure will be cut out of ¾in plywood and press fit. With advice from the engineers at our company I was ready to cut it.
Cut and Build
On a sheet of plywood every piece is digitally mapped out and the cut path is programmed. From there the pieces are dry-fit, re-fit with glue, and secured permanently with staples. this build was designed to be covered in flexible plywood to remove any gaps from between the ribs.
Foam, sewing, and Upholstery
After being built the structure is sprayed down with glue, layered in different densities of foam, and traced onto the fabric of choice. With help from the sewing department we made a sleeve to fit over the piece. with the fabric stretched evenly in all directions I finished up the piece by stapling the fabric in place and capping the bottom with black cambric.
